Corrosion inhibitor acts generally through adsorption on the metal surface. So, the anticorrosion treatment is not done on the metal itself but through the corrosive medium.

The inhibitor has to be added to the medium in which the corrosion behaviour is to be tested. Weight loss and electrochemical measurements are then carried out to compare this coupon to a different coupon exposed to a medium without any inhibitor. Thanks for your response, but my question is something different. Yes we do carry out baseline studies without inhibitor and studies with varying concentration of inhibitor. But my question is something more deep "will there be any change if we pre-condition the metal samples with inhibitor before introduction to the test medium?" Am just wondering is there any reference which quotes such practice.

Let's say I have coffee oil as inhibitor - if I immerse my metal sample into pool of coffee oil and let it be there for 24hr - then take it out, introduce it into coffee oil + test medium and carry out the Electrochemical and weight-loss studies - will this give me a different result than standard practice?

Am just wondering is there any reference which quotes such practice, so as I can read and understand before I try for myself.
