I am experiencing a lot of "self censorship" particularly in US companies these days. Problem is, that even necessary debates about changes and (revolutionary) ideas quite often seem to drown in trolls' refusal to even think about it. I am looking for valid data that show impact - if there is an impact - and the possible projected effects.

As I see it, political correctness has been, is, and will probably be, say, a terrible desease across the history of countries and societies. Political correctness often leads to populism and is at variance with new and, say, revolutionary ideas. We are politically correct when we express ideas or make statements that speak in favor of the status quo and the mainstream. Politically correct ideas reflect more what we know others like to hear and see than what we truly think of a certain state of affairs. Political correctness corrupts the very nature of a serious debate and exchange of perspectives. When political correctness is the case, what seems to be a serious exchange of perspectives becomes say, a fake debate or a debate full with example of trivialities and platitudes. Those who pursue the true, the good and the beautiful do not appeal to political correctness. So, political correctness is a big ennemy of a reversible exchange of perspectives and has a negative impact on the appearance of new, divergent ideas, and critical thinking and the like in any domain of knowledge, business, and so forth.

Isn't it the case today that everything has a "political twist" to it?
This has been operating longer than perhaps you realise and has just changed over time, usually based on groups with shared values that operate effectively in the media. It goes hand in hand with criticism of genuine offense. trolls are everywhere now, even here, and i'm afraid strategies need to be employed against them. Yes they limit debate but simply change the nature of the debate.
