In my opinion, the conflicts between nations for supremacy has not allowed real continuous peace to exist. What we saw , through history, was a temporary surrender of the weaker in front of the stronger until the tables are overturned or mutual acceptance of non-war situation because of the heavy prices that will be paid if a war is waged but this acceptance was usually put aside when one of the parties became more sure of defeating the other. Our dream for peace is difficult to be realized on this earth & the eternal peace belongs to heavens.
Great writer Chris Hedges address this important question at his bestseller: "War is a drug that give us a meaning". As far as I remember, earth has been less than 10% its time completely in peace, taking into account since humans are considered to live. Very Sad.
In the course of human history I can find no time in which true peace has existed. There may have been times in which no wars were fought but a true peace is not to be found. I believe that peace is possible only if and when peace within one's self on a grand scale is possible.
Peace is much more than simply a disarmament, a seize-fire, a stall in killings by nation states, ect. True peace is just that peace. It means crimes against each other, crimes against humanity, and crimes against "isms" are eliminated.
If one becomes at peace with one's self then he/she becomes a peaceful person, a peaceful person then becomes an advocate for peace and joins those who have already attained peace within themselves.
Is humankind capable of total peace, I am afraid not. I cannot in-vision a time in which all want, desire, and emotional needs are meet. Just as in any research there are what is called "outliers". These outliers will always be and more to the point in generations to come maybe our punishment by incarceration will be viewed as an act of violence. To cage a person with no hope of rehabilitation is cruel and unusual punishment.
If on the other hand we are referring to peace among nation states I again would argue no. I say no because I believe the best chance we would have for a peace would be post nation states. In fact I would make the claim that nation states do in-fact lead to violence and cause a great deal of anxiety.
Dear Marcelo, the way you put the question turns it into an academic one. While I know that in 1945 in my country when people could leave their shelter, as bombing was over, they knew it exactly that there is such a thing as peace.
Peace is not the subject which can be searched as it has a direct reference to the mind .Our mind is an energy force it has a direct relation with the heart & also divinity within us .
It is for every human beings in which mode he wants to participates in his life by keeping four golden lines of our mind namely TRUTH -RELIGION-PEACE-LOVE.
If any human beings for every option of his life follow the said basic of the life he may certainly receive everlasting peace in his life.
@ Rohit, I guess that means I will never have everlasting peace in my life being a non relegious man is this true? I would argue the opisite is true. This makes me wonder then is there a requirment to gain what I feel is a human emotion (peace)?
I mean if your equeation is correct it would seem to imply that religion is a necessary condition to become human. This i feel is deeply troubling and woulc have to take issue with.
Can you please clarify due to the fact that I and many others are in-fact nonbelievers?
