No, obsessive compulsive disorder is not contagious because it is a mental, not a biological disease, that is, a disease not caused by any virus or bacteria as far as i know. What I know as I psychologist is that such a disorder has negative effects on people's well-beings, namely on those who live nearby the individual who suffers from such a disease. This disease can be treated with some forms of psychoterapy and some drugs. These drugs, however, tend to have, say, secondary effects.
I know of seveal people suffering from such a disease and that have, say, a normal life.
It's my personal experience, I know a normal student living with 3 others suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder I.e they used to clean their hands and feets again a and again with water.... the normal person after few days also suffered from this!
Of course it is not contagious, however it may be learned by close ones/family members by witnessing and observing. As a psychotherapist I can say that OCD people who come to therapy, mostly (90%) have a family member/relative who has OCD.
