A lot of people think that the brain is necessary for having subjective perception and they think that this is the scientific position. Does neuroscience make this claim at all? I ask, because it seems to be a metaphysical claim. I think they talk and write about neuronal processes correlating with modes of perception, about the functions of the brain areas and about what happens in the neurons, but don't make any claim about the brain being necessary for subjective perception. Am I mistaken? If neuroscientist actually do claim that, how do they argue? The context of my question is the whole plant neurobiology discourse.
