Does metal to metal joining by FSW really occur so as to withstand loads in abaqus?

I am curious to know if metal bonding by welding (FSW) can really be simulated in Abaqus or not. I have read many papers wherein people simulate the FSW process only and study the temperature and stress profiles thereby. But are there any methods by which the FSWed joint can be shown to withstand impact or tensile or crushing loads?
