1) I read some handbooks on LISS III and LISS IV. here I am confused, and I like to know whether LISS -III provides both PAN and MS image and their resolution. 2) Is LISS IV camera provides both PAN and MS image with 5.8m resolution. Is there any other sensor in world provide both PAN and MS image. And mostly senor provides PAN and MS image with different resolution. if the case that LISS-IV provides PAN and MS image in same resolution what is the reason.
LISS 3 provides grey value images in Green, red and IR bands which are combined Blue for green band, green for red band and red for IR band to form the multicolour False Colour Composite. The PAN band stretches from the Blue to the red but excludes the IR. In principle you can combine the green and Red bands to create a pseudo PAN data. This applies to the LISS 4 as well. I think in Resourcesat 1 the IR band of LISS 4 was also put up as a 'PAN' band with twice the swath of the MSS data. Also if this PAN data is ordered then the corresponding MSS data was not available. SPOT was also able to give PAN and MSS data.

Yes. LISS-IV sensor of IRS P6 has the same spatial resolution as IRs-1D PAN data. Also, it has same spectral resolution as IRS -1 D LISS-III MSS data of 23.5 m spatial resolution.
Hi i need a explanation about Mono band and their usage. LISS- 4 provides date in (mono) and 3 (MX). MX covers spectral range of B2 0.52 – 0.59, B3 0.62 – 0.68 B4 0.77 – 0.86. And for mono, B3 is default band and resolution for both Mono and MX is 5.8m. I have a doubt that 1) IS mono is PAN image.2)If it is PAN image why it as only range of B3 band(probably Red band)
You have answered your own question! B2 is Red not PAN but for all practical purposes it appears like PAN because individual bands are in grey scale.
I agree with Dr. Arup Dasgupta's view on this topic. Band selection equivalent to PAN out of three available from LISS-4 was a topic of research which we studied earlier, in particular from Band Sharpening point of view. Band sharpening is a method of blending a low resolution multispectral data (LISS-3) with a high resolution (LISS-4) data so that at the end we get high spatial resolution multispectral data. Hi Senthil Sir, Yes sir i understand You Point. But Resource Sat-2 has LISS 3 & LISS 4 Camera. LISS-3 provides 23.5 resolution image and LISS 4 provides both MS and PAN image in 5.8m resolution. But for PAN image it covers only Red band . Mostly PAN image covers Visible region. BUT LISS 4 PAN covers only Red band(MONO) and why it covers only Red region and to which application RED band is used.
PAN band in spectral range can cover from 500 nm to 950 nm; this is where the solar energy content is maximum. So, what is obtained as PAN from Resourcesat-1/2 missions with one RED band (620-680nm) is only "vicarious" PAN band. The dictionary meaning of word 'vicarious' as "serving in the place of something else" is literally applicable here. The choice of RED band is best over the other two available LISS-4 bands for following reasons: 1) RED band image appears sharper for visual interpretation over GREEN band since the atmospheric haze effects (stronger in short wavelengths than longer ones) get reduced significantly, and 2) RED band image does not differ significantly to normal PAN image when compared to Near IR (NIR) band. For some earth features, you can observe contrast reversal (black becoming white or vice versa) in NIR band. Hence, the RED band becomes an automatic choice for the vicarious or equivalent PAN band.
