I have a randomized crossover design (counterbalanced order) with 4 sessions to analyze. I would like to investigate if the order of my brain stimulation interventions application could influence my results. A colleague suggested doing an ANCOVA and insert the order as a covariate, but I'm not sure if it's correct. If you have suggestions and papers to share, it would be very helpful!

Yes. Also, do you think order may interact with other variables? ANCOVA is just a type of multiple regression so texts on that can be useful. I assume the order was randomized. Is that right?
Daniel Wright thank you for your help! Yes, the order was randomized. It might influences the sequence learning task we did... so it’s interesting to check the order effect even with the counterbalanced and randomized sessions order, right?!
If it did affect it, covarying it may increase the power. It is often interesting also to ask why an order effect may be present.
