Considering some papers published by high impact journals and those rejected (personal experience). I have the impression that ones institutional affiliation influences editors decision on whether to accept or reject a manuscript. Is this assertion right? Or do you also have such impression?

Institutional affiliation does have an impact on Editor's decision on manuscript. Many of the Editiors come from certain instituions and know each other well through conferences and socializing. The kind of questions and methodology are well known among themselves. It will be difficult to fulfil these expecatations if we dont come from this network of editors and company.
Students passing out from reputed colleges definitely gets priority over those from inferior colleges.
In case of paper acceptance there is such a chance but if your MS is too good none of the Editors can reject it.
I feel duties of a good Editor is to improve a mediocre MS to an excellent one and not to reject the mediocre one.
Good editors who apply the ethics in paper publishing are not influenced by authors institutional affiliation but rather the content of the paper.

I think that this is a matter of feeling, but it has not been proven systematically.
Hopefully editors are not prone to be mesmerized by someones cool affiliation. If they are then you should look elsewhere.
I highly doubt that it has any influence on a well-written, well-supported paper.
Hi Alhassan Abdullah , I would say YES, to some extent. Let me give you an example from South Africa where we do have a list of accredited journals where one must publish. As a policy, about 60% of articles to be published in a particular accredited journal must come from the institutions outside the one hosting the journal (as a quality check and to guide against the 'paddy-paddy' thing) So, if you belong to a particular institution publishing an accredited journal and you want to submit your work there, you may be constrained by this wall. Of course a fair editor can suggest to you to use a secondary affiliation if you do have one.
I absolutely agree with you. I'm going to tell you about incident which, I was lived. Pretty new. I sent my article to a journal. The editor sent it back on the grounds that it did not meet the criteria. But there were articles published in that journal on the same subject. I sent those articles to the editor of the journal. He could not answer me.
In order for the editorial process and reviewing to be fully objective and independent, among other things institutional affiliation should not influence the editors' decision regarding the publication of a scientific paper and the evaluation of a manuscript in a text review prepared by reviewers. Unfortunately, however, sometimes it happens that institutional affiliation is taken into account in such situations.

I think, Institutional affiliation does not influence at all but it can draw attention to be trusted.
From an objective perspective, institutional affiliation should not be a factor in editorial decision on manuscripts but it has a way of influencing it. Articles from highly rated universities have ways of attracting editorial crew so as to increase the international recognitions of the journal. There is always value judgement attached to decision on manuscripts. Thanks

institutional affiliation is a must when sending a paper for publication in a scientific journal, but it is not sure that it has anything to do with editorial decision to accept or reject the paper. Most of the papers today are the product of a collaborative work, and if only one of the authors has institutional affiliation, in my opinion, it should not affect editorial consideration.

I would assume that a submission coming from a known university helps a lot, at the first stage. Why wouldn't it? But just because the affiliation is known, it's not a ticket to get published - the editorial process should not distinguish between a submission from a well-known affiliation and an unknown one in the editorial process.

I can relate with your experience as you have described it. As an early researcher, I have no reason to doubt that acceptance or rejection of article can, and is influenced by affliated institutions. However, down the line, as I progress (though, I am still an early researcher), I think that coming from a top-rated university might speed up the consideration process, but ultimately, institution affliation may not be the single most important factor for rejection of articles by authors from lowly-ranked universities.
I think maybe they are just trying to push us a little bit more to go beyond the normal. Just maybe.
