Language precision rather have great importance  in understanding of a certain scientific or technological information we get in a books, journals, TV or any social media. I usually get confused even here in research gate the way people ask question or reply for a given question. To tell the truth, informal writing is seriesly affecting peoples understanding of scientific concepts!

I  also think that informal writing can improve language proficiency but not scientific ability as mentioned by  @Harshvardhan Singh above. 

Informal writing  may indirectly improves technical writing, an essential skill for scientists.

Scientific abilities are improved by various sources of gaining knowledge: reading Books/journals, field work, etc. 

Writing is the art based on the knowledge ,intelligence ,the mode of our observation & for the success a gift of inspiration

& intuition. What ever may be writing of the subject it cannot be closed in one door.Very often suddenly some new thought

experience come before our vision & it may helps us to translate the same in our writing .

Our writings have the specific image & influence in our social fabrics .It has been observed in certain cases that through

our own writing,certain inspiration come out which may not only change the way of our presentation in our writing but also

it offers us in a urge to move on certain path which may turn out to be a guiding force for our Life Line .In certain cases

it may turn out to the progressive line of Religion & subsquent power of prayer & Meditation play living part of our life &

it is likely that this may also change the thinking process of our writing .This is my personal opinion .

Unfortunately writing informally has been equated to writing clearly because more and more readers can only comprehend such a style. It improves scientific writing if we have editors with such a mindset. Or as a "sketching exercise" for something more polished. Informality tends to spur more daring and creative ideas, but it may not help the writer in his/her precision of expression. There are limits to writing so as to span the widest readership possible.

In the world of scientific articles written by certain canons worked out by many generations of scientists. Tradition required in this case to different people without any additional effort to understand each other. The tougher requirements to terminology, language, presentation, drawing, the less the reader is distracted by minor details, the sooner he will be able to understand the basic essence of the work. To neglect these traditions - it means to be inadequate in the eyes of the community.

Every scientific article simultaneously pursues two objectives:

to convey the basic ideas of the author to a wider audience so that non-experts in the narrow subject could understand the basic idea, at a cost of a minimum of time;

submit a detailed presentation of the results obtained so that a small number of specialists able to understand them, to double-check, to develop and apply.

To learn how to write research papers, it is necessary to understand how people are reading them. It turns out that most scientists read the summary, conclusion, and (just like children) looking image, trying to quickly make any conclusions from the graphs and captions beneath them. Only if the article seems worthwhile to spend time on it, begin to read it. But the majority still do not read beyond the introduction.

The formal presentation (hypotheses definition, lemma, theorem, corollary, remarks) should be interspersed informal explanations, interpretations, comments, examples, appeals to intuition and common sense. However, it should be registered so that the reader will understand, "here are over evidence and interpretation began." The English-language articles in this place decided to insert a section Discussion (discussion).

Observation. The era of purely formal texts in applied mathematics thing of the past. They have to not read and decipher just what entails unnecessary expenditure of time. On the other hand, non-strict statement is fraught with the fact that the reader simply does not understand what is exactly meant by the author. And the author is easy to be tempted and beautifully decorate some crude idea, which would be unworkable in practice.

The golden mean - is dosed combination mathematically rigorous presentation and informal explanations that reinforce each other.

The main ideas of the text should be understood as a whole, if entirely missing evidence. If the evidence is hidden inside an important idea, it should bring the discussion beyond the evidence. In this case it is better to split the proof of the lemma.

Without empirical research it is difficult to establish relationship between informal writing and scientific capability improvement. My observation is that informal writing may improve ability to think through and express. In the context of social science informal writing improves learning outcome.

You are absolutely write, All problems of spellings and grammer can be taken care of by the WORD or social media editors or other related programs, Also that such social media writers can not write correctly without the help of any editor program. Also, I have found that this social media lowers the vocabulary  of a person very much. I have noticed that reading scientific papers/story books together give good command on language as well as vocabulary. 

If the question refers to writings of research literature, my view is that informal writing accelerates the understanding of the research process. I sometimes advise my students to put down their research idea informally at first. then when we have understood the ramifications of the idea I tell them to now formalize it. This way we agree faster on research topics.
