Can Liposome regulate gene expression independent of its drug cargo?
I am working with a drug-loaded liposome to ascertain the pattern of gene regulation in apoptosis-related genes.
Obviously, there was increased cytotoxicity in the nanoparticle as opposed to the 'naked' drug, but does increased higher cytotoxic potential necessarily translate to higher induction/repression of gene?
If the genes that you are mentioning is related to mitochondrial or apoptosis; then cytotoxicity can be attributed towards their alteration. But does your drug has anything to do with such modulation? If so, then you can look into these pathways by doing Array based studies, upon drug lethal dose.

Several factors can leads to gene repression especially if the cytotoxic level or potential is such that it prevents the promoter from binding to the mRNA for expression to occur.
