Hi, i am working on solution combustion synthesis of Y3Al5O12 powders with different oxidizer to fuel ratio. I would like to know if higher weight loss signifies lower combustion temperature? And also what does the higher derivative weight from DTG (higher as in peaks moved towards negative value) means?

higher weight loss indicate the rate evaporation for the volatle materials, which affect on the combustion temperature;
The rate of reaction for arhenius equation can be calculated as follows:
dαdt=Ae−ERTf(α) (1)
In above Eq. (1), α shows the conversion degree, T shows the reaction temperature, t shows the time, A shows the value for pre-exponential function, R shows the value of ideal gas constant (8.314 J/mol K), E shows the value of activation energy and f (α) means the function for reaction model. Basically α (T) indicate the combustion rate of fuel up to temperature T. Data obtained from TG analysis were utilized to evaluate the value for α (T) as shown in following equation.
α=mo −mT/ mo−mf (2)
where mo means mass of the sample at initial, mT is the mass of sample at temperature T and mf is the final mass of the sample.higher weight loss signifies lower combustion temperature powder

However, i am still a bit confuse with the TGA/DTG analysis. Are you referring to total weight loss or just weight loss at region where combustion occurs? What does the higher derivative weight (DTG) loss signify?
