I also have concerns about the RG score, thugh I find it a novel way to reinforce people to be active on Researchgate. I takes into account all the work and turns them into an index of reputation. I see counterexamples as you describe. Some people toil hypervigilantly to answer, and ask sometimes, which is very odd. RG score sort of make me motivated to answer, ask questions and shows the effect of my publications, yet it may also have serious drawbacks as well. Citations indices such as h-index publication. I think RG scores should not be regarded as a sole index of expertise, rather than a tool to motivate oneself. A suggestion would be even to make it private, or user may be enabled to choose whether or not to show this score.
