We collected this plant in Cheonma Mountain, South Korea. We used the Flora of Korea but we have not identified this species yet? Do you have an idea which species this could?
From the first sight this plants looks like a member of the Apiaceae family. Unfortunately, details of plants are almost invisible even in enlarged photograps.
In South Korea, we do not have the record of Patrinia triloba which is unresolved name according to The Plant list website. Besides that, the name of Patrinia saniculifolia is unresolved name. However, comparing some characteristics such as leaf shape, that of Patrinia saniculifolia is different from Patrinia trifolia. Therefore, we think that we need time to confirm these two species.
In fact this types of pictures are not suitable for identification. Harberium pictures are important. These pictures are quite inconspicuous and not enough to identify a plant. Please take close up picture and make harbarium. record all the characteristics and follow the taxonomic manual. Then you can ask the expert with all of your data for identification.
Thank you so much for your advice. I will prepare well for next times.
Dear Oleg Anenkhonov,
I examined the Valerianaceae and there were differences between Valerianaceae and my sample - Patrinia. Therefore, I conclude that my sample belongs to Patrinia genus.
Dear Duncan W Thomas,
I looked the records of Patrinia in Korea and my sample is Patrinia saniculifolia Hemsl which is unresolved name based on the plant list website.
Patrinia is a genus of Valerianaceae family sensu stricto. Currently Valerianaceae is included into Caprifoliaceae according to some sources. Anyway it is strange when you talking about differences between genus and family (and especially if genus is a part of family).
Agree, your plant looks very much like the holotype of Patrinia saniculifolia - see http://apps.kew.org/herbcat/detailsQuery.do?barcode=K000762799 . This seems to be a Korean endemic species. If PlantList says it is a unresolved name, this does not mean too much.
Probably it is a member of the family caprifoliaceae but about genus I cant make any comment as I never seen this plant.. During my research work at Botanical Survey I go through some members of Caprifoliaceae with same vain structure from which I hope that it is a members of Caprifoliaceae
