I tried to prepare Turbo Grignard reagent according to Prof. Knochel's protocol (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., 2004, 43, 3333), but most of Mg turnings remained. I completely dried Mg turnings and LiCl, and used dehydrated THF as a solvent. I used isopropyl chloride as it is from the reagent bottle. Does anyone know the special technique for the preparation of Turbo Grignard reagent?
It is commercially available, but relatively expensive as a large scale use. Hopefully, I want to prepare it by myself.

thank you for asking this very interesting technical question on RG. I checked the reference which you provided and found that this is just a normal preparation of an iso-propyl Grignard reagent. I have no idea what is "Turbo" with this protocol. Problems with starting a Grignard reaction are quite common, and you can find numerous hints about this on the general internet. It might be worth a try to distill the iso-propyl chloride prior to use. Also make sure that the surface of the Mg turnings is free of magnesium oxide and grease. What you can also try is to add one (!) crystal of elemental iodine to the reaction mixture to activate the Mg surface.
