Does anyone know if for the biogas cleaning to units of ppmv of VOCs a zinc oxide or iron oxide filter bed and an activated carbon guard bed, could be a right solution. Of course using activated carbon as sorbent material we need to adopt a condenser to eliminate the water from the gas stream.

For small plant, we have a dry anaerobic digester (16 m3). Could be a solution to use a condenser plus an iron oxide bed and an activated carbon guard bed prior to feed a reformer for the SOFC stack?
I have done a project on this. For SOFC , you need to use zinc oxide for sulphur removing and activated carbon works for siloxane removing.
I have performed experimental work in lab scale to clean the anaerobic digester gas especially considering the gas composition of Turin, Italy. It is not possible to reach the desired level of purification by iron oxide bed or activated carbon bed. I have done those experiments as a part of my master's thesis in VTT, Finland.

Yes,I have tested another commercially available adsorbents containing iron oxide lowers the concentration of sulphur but not to the level required for SOFC.

Davide your have explored about iron oxide and zin oxide so activated carbon too........is so good and I think that your have worked for getting the experience so the last your have became the expert of purification of biogas.Although Naima and Ramani have tested as commercially adsorbents (iron and zinc oxide) are not good and no use for purification of biogas especially for biofuel to heat and electric And I have I have done those experiments as project the waste of industrial to become a energy alternative
D.T.Hayhurst's article Gas Adsorption by some Natural Zeolites Chem. Eng. Commun. Vol. 4,pp. 729-735. Shows adsorption capabilities of some zeolites for CO2, SO2, NH3.
Zeolite columns are used to dry many gases.
There are articles on anaerobic digesters that talk about using zeolites to clean methane to natural gas standards. Sorry I cannot find a reference at the moment.
A zeolite column may work for you.
May be that right your idea Mr Bruce Kraft so I have a thinking like your letter that a zeolit is good a material for adsorption for using the clean of biogas or natural gas with technological of PSA (Pressure Swing Adsoption and Vacum Swing Adsorption) for one system purification. And for being remembered that solution of this problem have researched and developmed in Indonesia. Also all have sucessed for becoming the energy transportation.
