I'm particularly interested in the relationship between quantity and quality in fresh and saltwater wetlands, and riparian buffers in tidally influenced waters with respect to ecosystem services.
For example, is 1000 acres of poorly functioning salt marsh equal to 500 acres of good quality salt marsh with respect to water purification or maintenance of fishes?
I don't know if there is anything that specific out there but Airoldi and Beck (2007) provide a nice review of the condition of coastal regions in europe (Oceanography and Marine Biology, 45: 345-405). Also Paalvast and van der Velde (2014) recently published a study on the impacts of the tidal management measure around Rotterdam (Ocean and Coastal Management, 92: 50-64).
It's complicated because fresh and saltwater wetlands have different functions, such as habitat for migratory waterfowl and habitat for estuarine dependent fish.
