I am teaching at the Prefectural University of Kumamoto in Kumamoto, Japan, the location of the most recent big earthquakes here. I am interested in conducting surveys in two areas: 1) foreign residents regarding English information during and after the earthquakes, and 2) tourism businesses regarding post-earthquake effects and how to revamp the tourism industry after an earthquake. I wondering if anyone has similar data or knows about similar studies.

If you want to collect your own data or want to conduct experimental research, Nepal might be an useful venue. It may be the best choice to answer your second research question. You might get some information at Nepal Tourism Bord. Also try at Department of Tourism, Government of Nepal. But that is not enough to conduct an impact study of that kind.

Thank you very much Satis. In fact I visited Nepal in March of this year. I was saddened by the earthquake damage there. It's a beautiful country though, and the people are great. I will try those ideas to find data.

I surveyed migrant, non-migrant and return-migrant households in Nepal after the earthquake. My survey was not related to the tourism but i surveyed on the impact of migration on ex-ante preparedness and ex-post recovery of community.

your research is extremely helpful to the people damaged by natural disaster. I remind of tsunami in Phuket, Thailand, 2004. I have no concrete information but Phuket is an internationally famous tourist resort, you may find the history how it was recovered after Tsunami.

Thank you very much for your mail. I think it was a terrible disaster there, and the Kumamoto earthquake was very shocking. Although the physical properties are slowly getting back to normal, there is a slight sense of loss here. I will look into some research regarding the Phuket disaster as per your suggestion!
