I am currently working on a study focusing on the use of new media among prophetic churches in Botswana. To give a context to the study, I think it is important to highlight the variety of Christian denominations and projected growth of Christianity in Africa. I am just wondering if colleagues know of any existing survey of Christian denominations and projected growth of Christianity in Africa. Any information you can provide would be much appreciated.

PEW is not the only group doing research on this, but they're a great place to start.

A study by the Pew American Research Foundation and published by USA Today reported that missionary movements and the efforts of African indigenous people have increased the proportion of Christians in South Africa by an unprecedented 60% compared to 10% in 1910.
On the other hand, the report pointed out that Europe, the largest continent in the Christian world, is declining in the number of converts to Christianity despite its efforts to undermine the spread of Islam, the proportion of Christians from 94% in 1910 to 76% only according to the latest reports.
This comes at a time when Europe is considered the most religiously diverse continent with all the followers of all religions, and despite its preservation and its steadfast defense to preserve Christianity and not to abandon the Christian heritage, the number of Christians is declining.
Christianity is spreading in Africa at an average rate of 6 out of 10 going to Christianity, compared with 1 out of 10 a century ago, while Christianity is the world's most widespread religion.
The proportion of Christians is about 32% of the world's population, while Islam came second with 23%, according to the report "Global Pew Center for Exploratory Studies."
The report pointed out that although Christianity has its origins in the Middle East and North Africa, only 4% of the Middle Eastern population now converts to Christianity, while Christianity is spreading in the South.
The report pointed out that Christianity has doubled dramatically in sub-Saharan Africa, where the number of Christians reached 63%, after only 9% in 1910 as a result of constant evangelization by Christians, noting that Nigeria is home to more than 80 Million Christians, and has a larger number than Christian Christians in Germany
