Does anyone know of any disadvantages of using PVA/PVP copolymer in biological applications, such as IVD implant?

I would like to know the pros/cons of using cross-linked PVA/PVP as an intervertebral disc, so I am curious to know if anyone knows of any negatives of using this in high stress, compressible, or other related applications.
