I'm looking for a publicly available data set from a widely-cited study in any area of empirical psychology (applied, clinical, developmental, educational, multidisciplinary, social) that analyzes only categorical factors, i.e., no continuous variables. I need such a data set for method testing purposes.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I can't think of one that specifically meets your criteria, but for teaching examples of mediation I've previously trawled through PlosOne and had luck finding data.
Most software packages have sample datasets. For example, R has lots of sample datasets; you can use the data() function to see what's available and look through them until you find one with lots of categorical variables. Many online tutorials for various methods also have their own sample data; if you search Google for e.g. chi-squared or logistic regression tutorials, most of those tutorials also have sample datasets in them.
Dear Ben and Stephen, many thanks for your replies. I know about the data sets in R, but these are not from widely-cited studies in psychology. The American Psychological Association has a website with data material at http://www.apa.org/research/responsible/data-links.aspx, but there's no information on which studies have made use of which data sets. Ideally, I would need both, the study AND its data set (comprising only categorical factors).

Generally, there is no psychological study that only considers categorical factors. However, a wide range of categorical factors is available in TIMSS, PRILS and Pre-PRILS studies by IEA.
In addition, to assess your programme, it is possible to generate you testing data sample. The data sample should be according to the mathematical formula of statistical indices. In this case, I would suggest considering the main statistical data distribution, including normal distribution, J-distribution, skewness and different degrees of kurtosis.
What is the purpose of it being a data set from a psychology study? I know that there are a ton of categorical datasets using chi-square and logistic regression(including multinomial logistic regression), but what is the purpose of it being from a psychology study? Won't any dataset do?
I would assume that a sociological data set like the US census data would suffice as well. One can infer psychological principles from it. Census.gov

Categorical factors in Psychology, as in Human and Social Sciences, stereotype the person, condition the Human, repress the individual Unconscious, deprive him of his inner freedom and its Creativity.
However, as communicating and Social Being, the existence of categorical factors put humans with some denominators and common factors. However, Psychology, Social Sciences and Human Sciences should be Sciences of Intersubjectivities. His categorizations factors provide the individuals for psychiatric disorders, behavioral disorders and mental illness.
The very "scale factor" evaluation of individual self-concept generates different effects from individual to individual, and such differences should be valued, respected and assumed by Science.
