Hi! I am looking for surveys that assess food aversion and/or dietary info (e.g., 24 hr dietary recall) that are designed for ASD/DD. I am especially interested in relatively short measures. Thanks!
I cannot answer this as I don't know any s diet surveys specifially for ASD on this but as you most likely know diet surveys are very complex in general to get good data from. There are surveys for diagnosing senssory processing disorder that may be of use as food aversion is really a sensory issue, and nearly all ASD kids have sensory processing issues. If you find one please share as I am an MD who treats these kids in my clinic and sees food aversion all the time. The Child Block FFQ is a validated kid FFQ but not easy to use but is widely used in normal kids. Clinically I do a quick 5 minute 24 hr diet recall with kids/parents to assess major diet patterns such as lack of fruits/vegetables, excess carbs-usually simple ones such as mac and cheese and processed meats such as chicken nuggests, and sweet drinks. Almost all of my ASD kids can only name 1-3 fruits/veggies that they will actually eat.
For something more detailed you could try an online 24h recall tool such as ASA24 or in the UK we have developed myfood24. A parent could complete on behalf of a young child. Adolescents can complete the tool themselves.
