I have been trying to use different conductive paint to attach electrode to a semiconductor bar. I am also trying to match the work function of the semiconductor to the filler in the conductive paint. So far, Gold, Indium and aluminum is close to the semiconductor I have. Gold paint can be expensive. Aluminum Paint can form oxide layer. Therefore, I want to try indium paint. There are no commercially available indium paint. Therefore,I'm planning to make some.
Not sure if you can do it with pure indium but there are several ways to make solution processed Indium compounds-based electrodes. This paper can get you started. Hope it helps.

I'm surprised that you say Al and Au have similar work functions since they are fairly far off each other.
If your sample can sustain a little heat you can try soldering wires with indium. It melts at about 160C and if you're being careful with the soldering iron it can be very local and short heating.
Have you tried Ag paint?
Long time ago, I was using an In/Ga paste as backside ohmic contact for my semiconductor samples. I was melting In and Ga on a hot plate. It came out a kind of a silver-ish paint that I put on my samples with a little brush. i guess it can work with In alone too.
