Does anyone know how to prepare loose and dense assemblies in DEM?

I would like to prepare loose and dense granular assemblies in DEM. What are the parameters to be controlled to make these idealized specimens. Also provide standard parameter values for the same.

Could you explain in more detail what are loose and dense assemblies? This is the first time I see this terminology for Digital Elevation Models.
