I am analyzing questionnaire information from two individual data files for my dissertation. The first data file (N=944) contains school, school principal, and head school counselor information. The second data file (N=26,150) contains student, parent, and teacher information. Both data files have school id, stratum, and primary sampling unit (PSU) in common. Neither "match cases on key variables" nor "cases are sorted in order of key variables in both data sets" populated when the usual merging data techniques were applied.
Thank you to all who replied.
I have a second question regarding these data sets and my quantitative study. Each administrator questionnaire item is answered differently for the 20 students from their individual schools. Rather than analyze the data from the student level (as it is currently set up), I believe that I must first convert the data to the school level. I know that means are involved. However, since "match cases on key variables" and "cases are sorted in order of key variables in both data sets" did not populate in SPSS, I am not sure how to proceed.
