I am starting a research to evaluate the sustainability leadership of students at higher education in Vietnam. Does anyone know any framework for that evaluation or also environmental leadership?
I would like to interview students who are leaders of eco/env. clubs in Vietnam, a developing country, to understand their competencies, what promote their sustainability leadership, and so on. I have read some but could not find a concrete framework to evaluate. I assumed that those leaders can inspire other class-mates by their own stories of behavior changes but there remain some challenges...
I can share a model (Exa-Leadership Model) that can help you to frame in which area of leadership the effort should be done, I will put it online for you. The following link shows some key features of the model but I will try to make a pdf version and make it available to everyone
Thanks for your suggestion. I am at the exploratory stage so first, I will interview to identify the problems for maybe further questionnaire. However, you know, the number of interviewees as eco-clubs leaders is not high. We only have several such clubs so for questionnaire I need to consider the usefulness and criteria for sample selection.
Hope we can share our research experiences with each other.
Very interesting. A Model to evaluate sustainability leadership. I am also working on a paper on sustainability development of Private Universities in Kenya. So far having gone through sustainability papers done by other scholars, I notice that sustainability development is managing the present for a better future. Therefore, i was thinking along the lines of growth models that can actually attest that at present, an organization was at a certain stage and meeting its needs and as it grow, it was able to accommodate its future needs considering the dynamism of the environment, changes in the environment. In this case, student leadership. Yes, student need growth and what growth are we talking about? We need to look at students growth in the context of their environment i.e. scholarships, students income generating projects, the role of alumni, the students research activities, students concern about the general university environment. Has it grown? In my opinion, growth models can actually be used in evaluating sustainability studies. Scholars please i also need your input on this.
Leadership can be defined as a function of influencing a certain group of people individually and collectively by a certain person toward the achievement of certain goals. Sustainability involves all the actions done in order to create an environmentally friendly future. Following research paper may be useful for you:
Thanks for your comments. I would love to share with you if I come up with any specific ideas or results after. I have read some journal related to psychology which mentioned environmental psychology and indicates the growth of pro-environmental behaviours: knowledge - attitude - action (but remains huge gap from each level). Please share with me your related research.
Dear Prof. Opatha,
Sorry for my late reply and thanks for your article. I have read it and that provides good literature about green HR requirements. I am considering how I can apply your framework of green HRR though it is close to business. Also, thank you for a very insightful definition.
