I would like to video-record insects under IR light (850nm) in a way to see insects white on a dark background. However, a black material is prohibited because it impact the behavior I would like to observe. Consequently I am searching for a white, light grey or transparent material which does not reflect IR.
A salt (NaCl, KCl, CsCl...) is IR transparent (almost) and is commonly used in IR cells.
Nd:YAG or Nd:YLF laser crystals have absorption band around 805 nm.
A precision: I need a large surface of this material (about meter square) to use it as background.

In the page "O", column two, first paragraph one can read:
"Yao et al. reported three BODIPY-based near-IR small
molecules, S18, S19, and S20 (Figure 19).142 All of these small
molecules show broad absorption bands with onset absorption
extending to 880−900 nm. They found that S19 tends to pack
in a more ordered way than S18 in the pristine film, which
might benefit from the intermolecular interaction from the
halogen bond."
You can try, for example, an adsorption process of a BODIPY-based molecule into a glass area of one square meter.
My question needs clarification. Let's imagine that you want to take a picture of your grandma under IR light and that you want the background appears black under this IR light. I need such background to built a flight arena (kind of aquarium) if the material is transparent or to cover a wall if it is not transparent. thanks

Yes, someone suggested me some dyes that absorb Near Infra Red light. These dyes are soluble in different kind of solvents. However, after some tests it was not working very well for what I wanted to do. We used a different option playing with IR directions and improved camera background contrast.
