The 2015 ruling condemning the NRW legislation on headscarves worn by teachers seems again focused on religion, though this time on discrimination instead of religious freedom. I wonder whether there is a debate on the ethnic and gender discrimination involved here. I am aware of some German publications in the general press, partly by women who criticise the ruling as supporting patriarchal rule, but have not seen any English case note yet, looking on this other aspect.

I am surprised that this has not been picked up in English language journals. One problem that will be encountered in the UK is the lack of understanding of constitutional courts and their roles in determining policy. There is also in the case of Germany, a similar lack of understanding of the federal state in the UK.
The ruling is important internationally in terms of human rights and constitutional affairs and I am particularly interested in the involvement of NRW in this. ( I used to live in Herzebrock-Clarholz)
I am very interested in the comment on religious symbolism as a sign of disunion in society. I would like to see some of the German publications on this.
