I am trying to compose the story of the study of petrified wood using SEM. Do you know of any more papers, older to the Muir 1970 paper that deal with the subject?

I'm glad to finally get PDF copies of the Muir papers. Another hard to find early paper is the Buurman 1973 "Investigation of fossilization processes in wood with the scanning electron microscope" that appeared in a trade newsletter, JEOL News, volume 10e, No. 4. I am attaching a copy. This was a predecessor to the well-known "Mineralization of fossil wood" article that Buurman published in Scripta Geologica, v.12 (1972).
