I am looking for appropriate evaluation techniques that make sense in a non-tool/product oriented HCI environment (in my case music creation in a collaborative environment with tabletops). I am more interested in the argumentation towards certain approaches than the results of specific implementations/applications.

Sounds like a creative environment that you are exploring Niklas. I compared the use cultural 'guidelines' to using direct feedback from target audience participants. I found guidelines are far from a complete solution. In HCI, direct feedback via focus groups, one-on-one interviews provides rich design feedback and direction. I focused on developing a website for an Indigenous audience. The conventional design methodologies were not appropriate. The papers and phd are on my profile page for download. Talking about co--operation & HCI, does it have any relation with CSCW in HCI practice? From my reading, i would like to suggest variety of relevant HCI evaluation techniques that suits the targeted user. Reference? Many sorry, as i am currently working in mobile learning + dyslexic, not much reference in such area. Best wishes!

@Reece George: yeah, i think most of the problems stem from the problematic issue that the socio-technical environment is not really artefact oriented (leading to a product which can be evaluated/measured) and that in cultural practices not all interaction (with the technical environment and peers, in the collaborative case) has to be ergonmoic or efficient. quite the opposite actually if you look into Flow experiences and the difficulties for, in my case, musical engagement.
