Puttock et al. 2017. Eurasian beaver activity increases water storage, attenuates flow and mitigates diffuse pollution from intensively-managed grasslands. This is similar to Nyssen et al. 2011.
Gurnell 1998. The hydrogeomorphological effects of beaver dam-building activity
Hillman 1998. Flood wave attenuation by a wetland following a beaver dam failure on a second order boreal stream
Woo and Waddington 1990. Effects of beaver dams on subarctic wetland hydrology.
You may also have some luck looking at hydrology management plans. I have seen a few that list beaver as a possible flood mitigation technique. Many papers suggest flood attenuation may be an ecosystem service provided by beaver dams, but few have quantified this at meaningful scales. There a few good studies (Nyssen et al. 2011, Majerova et al. 2015, Puttock et al. 2017) that quantify the effects of beaver dams on hydrology at the reach scale, but I am unaware of any current studies that have examined these effects at larger scales meaningful to flood or water management.
