Does anyone have recommendations of how to record video for very simple behavioural measures (e.g. yawning) using online studies? I will probably use Prolific for participant recruitment and collect self-report data using Qualtrics.

I record participants frequently in my studies and I also use video for them to view (on-line and in lab). Are you looking to have your participants watch a video or are you trying to record them?

Of course you can embed video into many on-line survey platform (e.g., Qualtrics), so that part is no problem. The difficulty is in the recording the participants. In order to record people participating in an on-line study, you would need an app that could gain control of their webcam and record them, store the data, and have it available for your retrieval. As far as I know, this does not currently exist (and I've searched). The best you could do is ask participants to record themselves with their webcam while doing your study, and to email you the subsequent video.
Another problem with this is the angle of most webcams. Think of when you are on Skype and can see your own image, it is at a downward angle. So, depending on what you want to use the video for (e.g., behavioural observation, facial expression taxonomy, etc), this may also prove problematic as most of the face is not reliably visible.
In short, this limitation is why I am still mostly doing lab based studies. Sorry I didn't have good news for you

GoReact is an online program, interface where each person gets an account in a class (or as part of survey). You can upload video, have them watch it and simultaneous respond and record their responses. It is optimized for video as it was designed to work with American Sign Language students/teachers... who must record a lot of video and provide video feedback.
