We have a current project titled Self-Directed learning for nursing students in Albaha University.
Self-directed learning is essential in assisting nurses to meet the challenges presented in today's health care environment. Nurse educators have an important role to play in assisting nurses to acquire the skills for self-directed learning, and to do this they need to understand the concept of self-directed learning. Self-directed learning is based on the principles of adult learning, but can take many formats. The literature on self-directed learning has focused on describing the development and implementation of self-directed learning modules and much of this research dates from the 1980s (O'Shea, 2003). Nurses operate in a complex health care environment where social, technological and medical changes present them with challenges, and nurse education has a vital role to play in ensuring that they can adapt and respond to these challenges (Majumdar 1999).
It expected to improve the teaching methods in nursing subjects.
