Both claim to give equivalent values to the Agilent Bioanalyzer RIN score at a lower cost, and therefore seem to be good alternatives. Did anyone try this and could tell about the reliability? Especially when it comes to interpretation of RNA profiles of insects, in which sometimes the 28s peak migrates into the 18s peak (having only one peak in the end), because of breaking of the hydrogen bonds of the 28s molecule. This would look like degraded RNA, even with high quality. Bioanalyzer can deal with that, but not sure if LabChip or QIAxcel could. I work on honeybees, having whole RNA samples and Viral RNA extractions.
