Here we go! Please let know where to start with when developing a web GIS application for asset management system. Which technology is most suitable to make two web applications (webGIS and AssetApplication) to talk to each other? Please send me ideas about the best architecture to follow which makes the application robust, secure and of-course free from proprietary?

first of all: what types of asset do you want to manage? Ortophotos, shapefile, Postgis data? If the answer is yes, I'm suggesting to use GeoServer as middleware layer in your infrastructure: it is free for commercial and non commercial use, open source and very very easy to use. BTW, you have to know the OGC protocols behind....
Talking about the data layer, which kind of application do you have in mind? 2d, 3d, 3d with elevation, 3d with proprietary elevation data?
in the 2d context my favorite map is cartodb...but you can use also mapstore or openlayers for example.
in the 3d context my favorite is cesiumJS...but there are also other solutions like openwebglobe or NASA world wind, if you like Java and Java applets (not recommended)
Thank you Umberto Di Staso! You really nailed down my question. Yes using postGIS data, Geoserver for Electrical Transmission Asset Management System. I may have to perform load flow analysis,power system analysis and network analysis(electrical) with the integrated data. Transmission Asset Management System data are all in postgres. i have shapefiles included in postgis and somehow I am trying to integrate both. But I am not pretty clear about entire flow chart - meaning I do not know how the data is going to flow between different layers. May I find any architecture or map to start-with? Do I have to do scripting? (For information, I am comfortable with VSTS-C# and Java but newbie for webGIS).
If I have correctly understood you have a set of "point of interests" representing a powerline (or something similar) and you want to access at the information related to each POI that are stored in a PostGis database....am i right?
If the answer is yes, i'm working on a similar problem in a EU-founded project (www.sunshineproject.eu) where we have integrated sensors data than can be visualized by a webgis tool.
There are different ways to solve this problem but, if you don't want to reinvent the wheel, i'm suggesting to take a look to the OGC SOS protocol (http://52north.org/communities/sensorweb/sos/): this protocol is optimized to offer ANY kind of data coming from sensors by the use of a rest API. Any sensor can be also geo-referenced. In this was you can query the available data by lat/lon or sensor ID, for example.
This is a part of the solution that we adopted.
- find the ID of the object that you want to query
- use the REST APIs offerend by the 52n SOS suite to query the postgis database
- parse the output xml or json file
- show the data by the use of an html webpage
