I understand that there are commercial units available, but the burrow shape is different for each animal. I need a system whereby I can record the movement of reptiles in and outof their burrows. I would prefer to make the receiver and antennae myself (reduce cost) so any infornation on what is required and where to source the parts would be appreciated.
We have bulit several stations, among them only one for two way registration (two antennaes connected to one reader). They are based on equipments from http://www.oregonrfid.com/

Although I never got it up and running, I talked quite a bit with the first author of this paper about getting an RFID system set up for rattlesnake gestation areas. You might try contacting him, and the paper itself is very helpful. Good luck!

All. Thank you all for your answers. Unfortunately I can not find a way to reply to each individually hence the communal reply. Just as an update I have been specifically looking at units which would be able to read FDX-A transponders as I have access to a number of these but they appear to be difficult and expensive to source. I have found an FDX-B unit which comes with a sd card logger and antennae already tuned so will probably try that and see how it works. Mark, can you put me in touch with your student please? Declan
