Is there an economical technolgy to filter the Platinatoms and rubber catalysts and heavy metals in brake lining dust aso out of rain water which is collected along roads and directed into rivers?
You need to get into the literature on Sustainable Drainage Systems. There is no one fix for every situation but such methods can be designed to optimise particulate metals removal.
You could start with the Coventry University repository which holds many full text publications.. Other universities involved in this include Salford, Abertay and Sheffield in the UK , Cantabria in Spain, Monash in Australia and a number of N American institutions. Several other European institutions are also involved.
As a good start you could also have a look at the proceedings of the annual EWRI congress and the three yearly ICUD and NOVATEC conferences.
In the UK an organisation called SUDSNET acts as the link between academia and industry.
There is also a large body of official guidance from government bodies. From the UK this includes guidance from CIRIA. Many US states produce official guidance on treating surface water before discharge.
Alan's answer is a very good and comprehensive one, but I should point out that "NOVATEC" should in fact be "NOVATECH" with a H at the end. It can be hard to find in web searches because the name is so generic. It's also worth noting that some Novatech proceedings are in French only and some in English only, even within the same sessions in the same year (though all abstracts are bilingual). The conference website is www.novatech.graie.org
