I already tried two different antibodies one from cell signaling and the other one from Santa Cruz and they both did not show any staining. If anybody knows a good antibody for P-P38 or uses a protocol that works on free floating rat brain section please help me.
I use #9211 from Cell Signaling for western blot and it works great every time. I haven't used it for IHC as yet, and this may be the same CST antibody you have already. So this answer may not be any help to you. But I do use it for rat neural protein lysate for WB.
I would look at abcam (I think ab 7952 or something like that). They also have a gaurantee that you can use as insurance if it doesn't work.

Thank you for your answers and suggestions. Corey I used #4511 and did not work, I don't know about #9211..but they do not mention that it works for IHC. Josef ab 7952 is an Ab for P38 alpha only and I need a P-P38 recognising all isoforms. Bill what you suggested seems interesting, I will check it.

I have used it on frozen cryostat cut sections both free floating and slide mounted. Both work well. I normally use at a concentration of 1:100

Problem solved. Thank you all for your useful answers and specially to Anna Clark. The P-P38 antibody Anna suggested from Cell signalling 9211 worked well on my free floating rat brain sections using DAB staining.
