Several studies documented that higher water hardness is associated with higher incidence of urolithiasis among the population supplied with such water. It seems that low magnesium in water hardness should be the result. Certain pathophysiological studies have demonstrated an inhibitory effect of magnesium on calcium oxalate calculus formation (LI MK and al., 1985; Kohri K. and al., 1988).
