I would like to know if anybody is trying to grow cells over glass surfaces (like glass coverslips) without any treatment. Even being a hydrophobic surface, glass supported cell attachment and growth partially in our case. However, a lot of people have doubts about it, so I would like to know if there are more people with experience or articles about it.

i suggest you to find a cleaning method that is easy for you in the lab to keep constant:
eg. a bath in isopropylalcohol followed by a bath in water deion. and drying in a flow of compressed air. B33 ist a technical glass (http://www.schott.com/borofloat/german/download/flyer_borofloat_thin_glass.pdf)
Yes i have been having hard time with that, and now am almost there!
Here is the process in brief:
Etch the glass surface with Conc Nitric acid overnight. Wash with high purity water several times and autoclave them. Now everything is under biological cabinet.
Coat with Poly D lysine (mine are epithelial cells) overnight under hood. Then seed the substrates with cells. Let me know if you got any other process.

Dear Amar, it is quite relevant to state which cells you are working with, since cell attachment not only depends strongly on the substrate but also on the cell type. Some, for example fibroblast will adhere to many things and the challenge is to have surfaces where they do NOT stick to. Other cell type will not adhere, since they are non-adherent cells.
This being said, as Rt P points out, polylysine is pretty common to enhace cell adhesion
Dear Robert, I am interested in identifying materials that cells will NOT stick to (as you mention). Any suggestions you or others might have regarding materials to which cells do not stick to would be much appreciated.
