It seems the vacuum level of vacuum furnace is not the only parameter which is important for titanium sintering. and also the leak rate of the furnace is important. please tell me something about critical leak rate?
I don't know the Argon flow rate but when Argon flows, I've fixed the pressure as in certain value (5E-2 Torr) with the vacuum pump in the tube and results were fine.
You could achieve the desired pressure (vacuum) with a small pump and a low leak rate or a large pump and a high leak rate. In the case of a high leak rate you will have more impurities in the furnace. If you have an air leak, you will have higher levels of oxygen, nitrogen, etc. Follow Gordon Driver's advice and measure the leak rate in Torr-Liters/second. This leak rate will also include outgassing or desorption from the vacuum furnace walls and components.
