I am assuming that the type of fruit you are working with is a drupe. Are there any animals that would naturally consume these fruits? Undigested seeds could then be harvested from their excrement. Could the hard flesh be digested in an acid bath?
Seeds that passes through the digestive tract may be disturbed at the testa. In any event, these seeds will germinate well!
I got seeds from fleshy types of fruits (berries, drupes) after loading into the water: disturbed fruit paste it into lukewarm water, mix occasionally, mater starts slightly ferment for after one week, mature heavy seeds sink to the bottom...
A research technician I once worked with exposed seeds to an acid (followed by a wash with water) to break dormancy of freshly harvested seeds. In your situation, I was wondering if the fruits could be placed in an acidic solution to loosen or dissolve the flesh. The fruits would have to be washed prior to handling, but this could simulate digestion.
1. If the fruit size is big, it can be honed first. 2. If it is a small fruit, it can be soaked in H2SO4 for 10 to 15 minutes or in boiled water for 12 hours. After step 1 or 2, the fruit should be carefully washed with clean water before sowed on the seedbed.
There are various treatments for seed dormancy. If the dormancy is a type of double dormancy (hard seed coat) and some inhabitants, then you need to apply hard seed coat breaking treatments and again hormone applications such as gibberellic acid treatment. Check the type of dormancy first and act accordingly. Simple treatments such as hot water application and sulfuric acid acid application may solve the dormancy. It is better you mention the name of the species. Good Luck
