Can we compare DOC concentration (by TOC meter) with DOC (by HPSEC with OC detector)? I use NPDOC method with TOC meter to measure DOC concentration for surface water. Another way I also use is HPSEC with UV detector and OC detector. The results will show curve of log MW/retention time (x-axis) vs concentration in ppb (y-axis). I try to compare DOC concentration by HPSEC with DOC by TOC meter, but I never get the concentration close enough, it is totally different. Is the method correct? Does anyone have any suggestions?
You compare two different analytical methods. With the DOC or TOC you are measuring the aquivalence amount of carbon. With the HPSEC you detect the molecular weight distribution of organic matter with a chromatographic method. By this way You can not get the same results.
