Well this is a good question and it can be translated into review article. And I can add that it depends on the profession being taught, and although I did not searched for the data internationally, but I can say that medicine for example will not leave lecturing as a part of its educational and curricular structure because it has a vital function in transferring some non-verbal skills from the professional to the novice.

Arafat Naser al-yousuf The traditional lecture method [TLM] is still the most acceptable pedagogical practice especially in higher education. Students are used to TLM instruction before they come to your classroom. Implementing other approaches other than TLM must be exciting for them to experience. Flipped and blended learning teaching styles are very effective alternative to adopt.
Selecting a teaching method depends on the teaching contents and the levels of the students as well as the teachers' experiences. No teaching method can be applied to all classes even at a university. Knowledge-based and philosophical subjects are completely different from skill-based subjects which need practical training and experience, so teaching methods cannot be the same...
