Patient education is the process by which health professionals and others impart information to patients that will alter their health behaviors or improve their health status.
I agree with Dr. Samiha, the more the patient and thier family know about the condition the easier it is for them to make decisions and the more comfortable they are with the treatment which gives them a positive attetude that always helps in the recovery process.
I feel that patient (and family) education is crucial to the recovery process. My focus is on educating patients on self-care. I find that getting patients, especially those with chronic conditions, actively engaged in their care with appropriate self-management interventions allows them to feel greater control over their situation which creates a more positive attitude. This in turn positively affects both their physical and mental health, and can lead to improved health outcomes.
Yes, patient and family education play important part in patient satisfaction and service recovery. Empowering patients and his family about the health problem and the consequences of different treatments, can help the patients/family in accepting even unacceptable and which may reduce expectation and perception gap. This may also play same role in accepting service recovery strategies.
I completely agree with Samiha that patient and family satisfaction will be increased by proper education by health care providers and will enhance the quality of services provided to them.
There is considerable research in the early psychosis literature that indicates that both patient/consumer and family/carer psycho-education benefits the person experiencing mental ill health and their family in understanding the illness, understanding and navigating the service system, preventing/reducing rates of relapse, and working toward patient-centred goals of recovery.
Certainly. Patient and family education play a part in patient satisfaction by decreasing anxiety and depression. I studied about patient education and its positive effects on helping to patients. You can find them in my profile.
