We were using the machine quite normally with perfect signals. Then about half hour later, when we started to use it again, the headstage (probe, please see picture) seemed to be desensitized without any signal, even no noise. Usually when we assemble the tungsten electrode in the probe, it will produce some noise from the probe. Now it just totally become silent with no signal and no noise. Can anybody give some suggestions? Thanks!
You may have a fault in either the connection to the probe or in the actual preamplifier. Try a different probe, just to eliminate these possibilities.

Because we didn't change any part in the experiment protocol and we were using this machine intensively in the past five years, there should be no problem in the connection. This is our first time to find this problem. We did try another probe from the other lab and it worked well then. That's why we think maybe the probe has some problem. But we don't know what the problem is and if we can fix it before we re-order a new one. Thanks for your answer.
If everything else is working, I suggest a new probe. It will be much easier than working on the old one and wasting hours or even days! Good luck!
