Semi-structured interviews are widely used in qualitative research. I have been unable to find any research which has calculated the percentage of questions in qualitative interviews which are pre-determined (designed before the interview), and the percentage of questions which are asked more spontaneously to elaborate, probe or further investigate the interviewee’s answers.

Can you point me to anything published on this topic?

I understand percentages may vary depending on the type of qualitative interviews, and if there are any cross-method comparisons of question percentages that would be even better.

Thanking you in advance
