In back reflecting layer of thin film solar cells (used for advanced light trapping), Ag nanoparticles are used to scatter the light. The important property is that they don't absorb much of the light in near infrared and visible range. Do you know (or suggest) any other materials that can be used instead?
Without altering most properties too strong, a potential replacement would be Au. Also Al could be a replacement. It certainly depends on what you want to achieve and what the additional conditions are.
Au nanoparticles can be used instead of Ag ones.

All noble metals like silver gold copper and aluminium have very good plasmonic property in different regime of Solar spectrum.
