Apparently, when Selys died he had amassed considerable collection material from all over Europe and from the New World. Georg Ulmer described many species of Trichoptera from this collection in 1907, but the metadata provided for many type specimens is very thin.
A series of caddisflies were described from the type locality "Morris, Georgia". I believe this to be an error (these specimens were likely to have been collected before 1900, in order to have made their way to Belgium to be deposited in this collection, and Morris, GA was not incorporated until 1911).
I think that it is possible that the correct locality would be "Morrison Station, Georgia", which is a slightly better fit to the known geographic distribution of the species Ulmer described from this location.
I have tried with very little luck to find any insect specimens of any order that were collected from "Morris" or "Morrison Station" Georgia. I have been unable to find any North American collectors contributing Georgia material to Selys from this time period. He was known to purchase material from commercial collectors, and that may be the provenance of my specimen. At the very least, clarifying some of the murky details around this question would greatly help me in understanding whether I should pursue this further. Thanks for reading this far!
