I always liked the Cognitive Psychology Books by Goldstein. There are several of them. They are also good for teaching as they often include online material that the students can use to practice. Also, they are not too expensive.

I have always liked the Neuroscience textbook from Bear, Connors and Paradiso. If you want to get into the nitty gritty of neuroscience. It really is a perfect resource for that level and I have used it for freshman college physiological psychology courses. Kandel is better for upper level neuroscience. Also, the teachers edition from Bear et al is pretty great, lots of exercises and interesting ideas for in class experiments. Be warned though, its expensive-ish.

I found very interesting some lectures about the perception of Prof. Dale Purves (the Duke Institute for Brain Sciences), I often use them in my lessons because, in addition to being intuitive, they allow the teacher to keep the attention high, because they intrigue the listener.

Both of Mel Feffer's books on psychology are excellent texts to explain the benefits of cognitive constructivism psycholgy. I think it gives students an opportunity to integrate personality, developmental and cognitive theories into a unified approach.

Although Marcus has received a lot of response (and notably from masculine brains), it is my feeling that none of them really addressed what seemed to be the core motive for his post, that was to broaden his view -- that I can offer, but it won't happen in one post, or simply offering standard text or even link recommendations because paradoxically, such advice must come from someone who is not introducing students (as well as others in the community) to this field in the traditional boxed educational and economy that subsumes it, which ironically is not supported by the findings of the field and yet is taught in a manner that supports the perpetuation of the system! Hi Magnus. I had taken two separate courses during my graduate education: cognitive neuroscience and cognitive psychology. For the former course, the reference book was "Cognitive Neuroscience - The Biology of the Mind" by Michael Gazzaniga et al. For the latter course, the reference book was "Cognition - Exploring the Science of The Mind" by Daniel Reisberg. I thoroughly enjoyed both the courses, and the books were an equally pleasurable read. All the best!
